How payments work
Last updated: October 2026
This page sets out exactly how money moves on Oscab Ride — what a rider or
customer pays, which part of it reaches a driver or vendor, when it reaches
them, and who pays the processing fee. It is written to be checkable against
what actually happens in the apps, not as a summary of intentions.
All card and mobile-money processing on Oscab is handled by
Paystack. Oscab does not store card numbers or mobile-money PINs.
Who receives the money, and when
-
Rides booked by phone (*928*311#) and paid by Mobile Money at the end of the tripSplit at source
When the trip finishes, the charge is raised with a Paystack
transaction split. The driver's share is routed by Paystack
directly to that driver's own Paystack subaccount, and only Oscab's
commission reaches Oscab's account. On these trips Oscab does not hold the
driver's share at any point. This requires the driver to have saved a
payout account, which is what creates their subaccount; until they do, the
trip is paid the ordinary way described below. Rides booked in the app are
charged before the trip and are not split — we are working to move them
onto this same footing.
-
Rides paid in the app before the tripOscab wallet
These are charged before a driver has been assigned, so there is no payee
to split the money to at the moment of payment. Oscab receives the fare,
and the driver's share is credited to their Oscab driver wallet as soon as
the trip completes. It is then paid out to their own mobile-money or bank
account — see payouts below.
-
Cash ridesDriver holds the cash
Nothing is charged electronically. The driver is handed the full fare and
keeps it. Oscab's commission on that trip is recorded as an amount the
driver owes, and is settled against their wallet.

Eats and Shops ordersOscab wallet
The customer's payment is received by Oscab. The vendor's share of the
order is credited to their Oscab vendor wallet when the order completes,
and the courier's delivery fee to the courier's wallet. Both are then paid
out to the account each has registered. Order payments are not
currently split at the moment of charge, even where a vendor has a
Paystack subaccount registered.
Payouts
Money held in a driver or vendor wallet is paid to the mobile-money or bank
account they registered in the app. That account is registered with Paystack
as a subaccount belonging to that driver or vendor, so payouts go to
a destination they control and can change themselves.
Payouts are raised automatically every Sunday at 11:00 (Accra time)
on any balance of GH₵30 or more, so a driver does not have to request
one. A driver can also cash out instantly on any day for a flat
GH₵5 fee. Every payout — Sunday or instant — is checked and sent by a
member of Oscab staff before the money leaves, so it is not instantaneous.
Commission
Oscab's commission is the only part of a fare Oscab keeps. It is
15% on cars, a flat 10% on Okada and Pragia, and a flat
15% on deliveries. Commission is never charged on tips. Full terms
are in the Driver Agreement.
Who pays the processing fee
Paystack charges 1.95% to process a payment. Who carries that depends
on how the driver is paid, and the two go together:
-
On a split rideThe driver carries it
The 1.95% comes out of the driver's share. In exchange their money is
settled straight to their own account by Paystack, the next working
day, with no transfer fee and nothing to request.
-
On every other rideOscab carries it
Oscab receives the payment and pays the 1.95% itself, and also pays the
fee on the transfer out to the driver's own account.
Nothing is deducted twice: a driver paid by split is not also charged a
payout fee, and a driver paid from their wallet is not charged the 1.95%.
The booking fee and the government levy
A GH₵1 booking fee is added to each trip and is Oscab's. Separately,
Oscab remits GH₵1 per completed trip to the regulator, monthly. That
is paid by Oscab out of its own revenue and is not an extra charge to the
rider.
During weekday rush hours, and whenever it is raining, riders pay a small
levy into the Traffic Guarantee pool. That money is not Oscab's
revenue and no commission is taken on it: it is paid out to drivers whose
trips overrun the time the rider was quoted.
